QUINTA DA MOITA

In the Balance of Nature

About us

We envisioned a space for connecting with nature, for balance, for being able to experience some of its creation and renewal rhythms, for walking around and tasting its fruits, and for living an economy system that seeks to be circular and sustainable and that is constantly improving and adaptating. We follow a biological agriculture, in which we respect the forms and types of crops of the region (culture in shale terraces, with planting of vines bordered by olive trees and interspersed with fruit trees: cherry trees, apple trees, fig trees, walnut trees, lemon and orange trees, almond trees, arbutus).

Tradition

Built in the mid-19th century, Quinta da Moita, inspired by the surrounding nature and its rurality, opened an Agrotourism unit in 2022. It was originally a tobacco plantation farm that was then put to dry in the Mother House. For this reason, the entire façade of the house was open to the entrance of the sun. We kept the idea through the wide, light-flooded windows.

The olive oil was made in Quinta da Moita, in the watermill, remaining the millstones, which are now used as garden decoration tables. The traditional olive press has been transformed into a dining room, evoking the old flow of the wine to the tank through the soft sound of water circulating. We value the knowledge of the local population and integrate it into our project, as well as we open to our guests the culture and rich traditions of the region.

Goods

THE WINE

In a region of winemaking traditions, comes the white wine Quinta da Moita (Arinto, Malvasia, Gouveio and Fernão Pires castes), the rose wine from the Quinta da Moita and the red wine from the Douro demarcated region (Adorigo).

THE OLIVE OIL

Quinta da Moita, the name of our Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, harvested in a traditional way and deliverd in a modern olive press for its production.

THE HONEY

The multifloral honey comes from a second small apiary installed on the farm. The bees feed on meadow flowers, which are born spontaneously, and organic clovers planted.

Accommodation

Quinta da Moita, an agrotourism unit, comprises a main building, the Mother House, with five bedrooms, a dining room and two living rooms, and two houses, the Orange Tree House and the Mill House. The traditional granite construction was remodeled with organic materials, such as wood and corten steel, evoking the constant transformation of nature.
